I loved to work with the texture of the sky and fields. I did not want to paint the fields the 'usual' diagonal way, but with a high horizon and horizontal fields to express the largeness of the polders behind the dunes.
When you think of The Netherlands, the first things that comes to mind are cheese, wooden shoes, windmills and FLOWER BULBS.
Spring is the prime one in the
Netherlands with
all flowering fields and gardens of bulbs
and
spring flowers.
The flower fields in the west of Holland
are at
their best in April and May. That's when
the
spring bulbs, such as tulips and
hyacinths, are
flowering.
SOME INFORMATION about the
Dutch
FLOWER FIELDS
The cultivation of flower bulbs for
commercial
purposes started in Haarlem (Holland)
and the
surrounding area about 400 years ago.
The
area between Haarlem and Leiden
eventually
became known as 'De
bollenstreek' - the bulb district.
For many years, a large part of the
population
earned their living from bulbs, whether
in
nurseries, export, or in industries that
supplied
the sector. The town of Lisse
regarded itself as the center of the bulb-
growing area, boasted a postmark that
declared:
"Lisse, the centre of
the
bulb district"
The famous flower exhibition
-de KEUKENHOF-
can be found here.
Framed in a rich wooden silver
colored frame, which gives an extra
dimension
to this painting.

Great painting, unfortunately my computer is broken and I can see only the shades of blue and yellow and black...but is great ,it reminds me about one of my older oil ,a wheat field filled by red poppies and a serene blue sky.I like very much to paint fields,it gives space and a beautiful sky .Angelo Ribezzi 09 May 2008

Oh the beautiful flowers are not poppies , but gave me a narcotic wizard of OZ impressionist high anyway ! I like the composition (the high horizon) and attempt to do the same thing when shooting landscape photography.Joyce Geleynse 16 Sep 2007
Beautiful, evocative painting, Olga! I was born in Holland but emigrated to Canada when I was 6, so I have only vague memories. My grandfather had tulips and I'm pretty sure he lived in the "bollenstreek".....he lived near Sassenheim.Sylvia Jackovitch-Kallay 12 Sep 2007

Attention to detail is what draws the eye. Paradise seas of the red tulip set against the backdrop of the familar yet traditional windmill (the original windpower) and the quaint country house nearby being doused with nature's hose. Could this be your house?Carliss Mora 05 Jun 2007

This is what I like Olga. If you cant travel to the country, let it come to you, in the form of your wonderful paintings. I loved all the info about "der bollenstreek." though it does raise the question in my febrile mind. How many green fingers does it take to screw in a bollen?Ron DeMore 04 Jun 2007
