CORRELATION©
"a relationship in which two or more things are mutual complementary, or is caused by another."

After a little break I'm working hard to get some more new pieces finished for my (first) solo show @the University of Delaware's Library in Wilmington in September.

________________________

Some INFO about this Collage/Painting:
Good exterior grade plywood or birch plywood provides an excellent painting support.
I choose for the very smooth surface quality plywood because of its resistance to cracking, shrinkage, twisting/warping, and its general high degree of strength. Furthermore I could decide on the exact size.

I love to work on wood to get the desired visual effect of the grain of the material.
It is a lot of work to prepare though, to avoid warping, etc.
I sealed the front and back with a premium wall primer and sealer. I didn't sand it to keep the grain.
Then I reinforced a backing frame glued to the primed back.

I used newspaper for all the geometric shapes. Some of the pieces I didn't paint and to keep its color.
The glue (Liquitex matt) is archival and will not yellow. I also mix it in with the acrylics.
I love the copper earth tones I used and raw sienna for the background, which gives CORRELATION a warm color effect.

Framing: I glued vintage sheet music as a frame at the sides. Then I used modeling paste over the paper, sanded it, which gives it the marble-like look. I finished it with a burnt orange and raw sienna and sealed it with pearl Liquitex, which makes the color soft and warm.

This piece is signed & dated verso
so the new owner can decide to hang this piece horizontal or vertical.

mixed media Collage/painting on plywood

Horizontal is more peaceful and reads as a musical landscape. Vertical gives more movement, but also a feeling of falling.

Sara Deutsch 02 Jul 2008

Innovative and striking design!

Betty Fletcher 13 Feb 2008

Very pretty and colorful! Betty

Robin Brown 18 Nov 2007

Gorgeous Olga, its giving me a feeling of Aztec art but I might be confusing that with some other culture. The bottom line is I really like what I am looking at & the info is very useful too. XX

Amanda Tucker 27 Jul 2007

this is a wonderful piece and would look wonderful in most peoples homes, I like it better horizontal!

Doris B. Lambling 22 Jul 2007

wonderful strong piece - and one of it's special advantages: it 'works' from every side - horizontal can probably easier explored at an exhibition.

Mark Saxton 18 Jul 2007

my vote is horizontal. Great piece. Good colors and design.

Kathie Nichols 17 Jul 2007

Just a wonderful abstract, busy with textures and colours, delightful! I agree with Monika and Peter, horizontal position to display!!!

Steve Farr 17 Jul 2007

Vertical or horizontal, its just an amazing piece, my friend!!! Take care!! ^_^

anirban bora 16 Jul 2007

brilliant

Cathy Holford 16 Jul 2007

That is just fabulous!

Monika Moore 16 Jul 2007

It think it's easier for the eye to explore this piece in horizontal format. Vertical would make a stronger statement and attract the viewer better. I'd say that for a solo show horizontal format would work well -- you want them to take time to look, and don't want to compete for attention with your other pieces. Hope this make sense. :-) I like this piece, Olga. ~M

Peter McPartlin 16 Jul 2007

I prefer this amazing piece of art in the horizontal position, perhaps even the other way up ??.Whichever way you decide i am sure it will look fantastic. The amount of work that has gone into this is staggering, better you than me even if i had your talent.Anything that takes more than 3 hours is enough for me,besides primer and sealer gets on my chest..AAHHH DIDDUMS

annette steens 16 Jul 2007

Nice, very nice Olga! it's a very calm painting and warm colours. Like it horizontal!!! Lots of luck with the exhibition.

Cathy Kaiser 15 Jul 2007

I love the last one (haning position) What amazes me is this art work is relaxing and yet has a chaos feeling at the same time. It is certainly a wonder, this piece of art.

Frank Maguire 13 Jul 2007

Hi Olga, it's a pity Einstein is dead because he could have set you right about the framing. Personally I like it any way, which makes me a pushover in so many other life situations. But I think it would go well with your pianner, music is mathematical like oranges and apples and pictures of Queen Victoria sitting on the john.....why did I start this sentence?

Horizontial gives it a mediterannean al fresco look. Vertical gives it a South American feel. Whatever the direction its facing the incorporation of universal architectual instruments says international.

Great Collage - appeals to my former science life and illustrates the complexity of all (science/non-science) interrelationships.
