The Sky Should be as Inviting as Your Smile

If you could see the original painting you might very possibly make out the face I painted over just to the left of the jug-like image. This suggested the title, though the person I painted over was the true inspiration for the piece. I hasten to add that I painted over the face simply because I couldn't do justice to her smile and for no other reason. This is a 16 by 20 inch acrylic painting on gallery-wrapped canvas. More authentic Original Jones Art coming from Austin, Texas.

Awsome Charle very colorful abstract expressionist piece

Artist Reply: Well, not in the purist's sense can it be called 'abstract expressionism' but it's pretty abstract otherwise, Ray. Thanks for commenting. I need to paint more, I think. ;)

Very powerful work, Charles!! Very nicely composed, wonderful colors !!

Artist Reply: This piece came about spontaneously, something akin to spontaneous combustion, as my whole being seemed to need an outlet. Art has always been both an intellectual and an emotional outlet for me, Helena. I try to balance the two, but sometimes the emotional element gets the better of me. I'm fairly sure that, knowing your work, you can relate to this. Hope you are doing great. :)

At the risk of sounding like a simpleton: I love this piece, the colors are beautiful. And that's all I have to say.

Artist Reply: Hey, some of my best friends are simpletons! :) Heck, I'm a closet simpleton myself! Thanks for the comment, R.R.

Incredible piece. I have just started an abstract class and you would be a hit there...

Artist Reply: I taught a couple of art classes years ago, Jerie. There's nothing like having a bunch of open minds about, is there? To paraphrase: I am NOT abstract, I AM an abstraction. :)

If art is a language, your words are new to me yet comprehensible in some nearly visceral way. I agree with others here: This painting is very moving.

Artist Reply: I have seen people take 10 seconds to view the Mona Lisa, so I well understand that the language of art is lost to some. Thanks for the great comment. It moved me as well.

what a moving piece Charles....

Artist Reply: It's a response to having lost a loved one. I still miss her smile very much. I didn't know if it conveyed my feelings or not. Thanks, Leah.

Well done and colorful abstract, Charles!!

Artist Reply: Thank you, Ruth. I appreciate it. You are much the traditionalist and am am anything but, but when it comes to mutual appreciation of God-given talent--genres mean very little. ---Charles

Artist Reply: Thanks, Lucia, for your positive comment. I will look over your work as soon as I can. I have a thing for anything British. ;)
