NY Hudson©

Please enjoy this view over NY's Hudson

This is my first oil painting (Impasto)

and now I am totally hooked to this medium! I used modeling paste (Liquitex) with a knife to build up a heavy texture and to create the three dimensional illusion of this painting.
When dried I painted over it with oil paint.

Mixed media: Oil paint & Modeling Paste on a canvas panel

Dimensions 11"-14" (27.9 x 35.5cm)
Framed in a Bordeaux red wooden frame which complements the colors of the painting.

--------SOME HISTORY -------
You are likely to agree with nineteenth century writer Nathaniel Parker Willis that the Hudson is indeed one of America's great rivers and "a spot of the earth with soul."
The Hudson River is a river running mainly through New York State but partly forming the boundary between the states of New York and New Jersey. It is named for Henry Hudson, an Englishman sailing for the Netherlands, who explored it in 1609. Early European settlement of the area clustered around the river.
The area inspired the Hudson River school of painting, a sort of early American pastoral idyll. _____________________________

Jo Ripley 01 Oct 2007

this is totally amazing-I love impasto-did you use a knife-if so next time try a old comb or after you have finished the painting cut a piece of screen(like the kind on a window) and press it quickly and lift, the effect is so different. this painting is so beautiful, wish I could afford to buy it. best regards Jo

Anneke Hut 07 Sep 2007

Great artwork, I can imagine you love the paste, it fits so well to your style. Have you tried already to add little pieces of tissue to the paste and mould them when it's still wet? You will be surprised by the effect!:) The colours are so beautiful, they sparkle from my screen.

Libbe Bouma 07 Dec 2006

A great one, very nice !!
