Green-faced Honeyeater

I took this photo at Mt. Cootha Botanical Gardens. This is a Green faced Honey eater. This bird with it's friends would keep flying away when people came near. I had to be very cautious and give off a non threatening body language so I could get very close to them while they were drinking honey from these flowers. I selected this image of this honey eater to display its face and beauty rather than an image of it drinking honey from the flowers, although I do have some amazing images of it drinking honey from these flowers also. Canon EOS 400D; Sigma 50-500mm f/4.0-6.3 EX DG HSM lens

This is really excellent, it's really difficult to catch any bird let alone a small honey-eater. Well Done!

Excellent capture, Curtis. Must have taken some time and patience but well worth it! He doesn't look too happy, does he?

Artist Reply: Thanks John, you're always very nice. He was just very cautious of me and anyone who would come by. He flew off the first time I came by and again and again with other people coming by... He also had some friends with him... There was one which had a blue-face which is more recognised and looks prettier although I didn't get a shot as good as this one on the blue-faced honeyeater... I think the difference in the colour indicates a different sex I think. As I said though, I tried to be as non threatening as i could and I got some great images of it drinking honey. Thanks for your interest John, always welcome.
