Seated Ballerina

Here is my most recent painting of a seated Ballerina. She is 24" x 24", Oil on Canvas. A treasure I hate to let go but...a greater cause that is before us is in more need than me having a beautiful painting. For the last seven years, I have donated a painting to the Arizona, Hospice of the Valley. Money raised at their annual art auction goes to helping and providing assistance to the terminally ill. Even if I sold her, the value of assistance to another human being, in any way, far exceeds any material gain I could get. I have been blessed with a talent that has given my life meaning and purpose. My giving in this small way, is my way...of giving back. Prints available upon request.

Very lovely, great use of color and contrasts. Love the flowers in her hair.

Artist Reply: Thank you Jeane. The background lead to an open and loose brush work, which I need to develop more of. The highlights in the netted tutu were applied with a pallet knife which provided a textured look of the mesh

you may be proud about the hair, wunderfull! But I wonder about the leg..

Artist Reply: The leg was hard to paint, the picture I used was very lost in that area. Not due to lighting but bad exposure on developing. I should have used a stand-in to capture the correct lighting and form. Thats what is so wonderful about painting, each one is a study. We hopefully gain a greater understanding of the painting process, our concept, seeing correctly how light travels across images and forms. Translating what we see, the three dimensional object to a two dimensional surface. Then, we take what was learned, mistakes and all, to our next painting, hoping to minimize the mistakes. At the same time, applying the understanding gained to create another beautiful picture.
