Serenity

ALL NEW! EXCITING NEWS ABOUT "SERENITY"! Limited Edition signed and numbered Giclee prints are now available! The long awaited prints are here, and up for sale. The run is only 250 prints - be among the first to own a Christina Langman Limited Edition Print! Your purchase will help the snow leopards too - Christina is donating 10% of all proceeds to the Snow Leopard Conservancy! Visit Big Cat Art for more information, and to place your order.

"Serenity" is copyrighted by Christina Langman, and may not be reproduced without permission. Reference photo is by user "Crias" (Cathy Sheeter) at the site WetCanvas.com (THANK YOU CATHY! Without you, my work couldn't be this stunning!)

This piece is 14 x 28 inches, and is the largest colored pencil piece I have done as of yet. It was extremely challenging, as it was the first time I had also included such a detailed background/foreground in any of my images. (Let's just say that I won't be using the color GREY for a while!) It has taken over 250 hours to complete, and has been a year in the making.

"Serenity" has been awarded and recognized at the Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association's (SWAA) "Reflections of Nature" show and competition held every year in Saskatoon, SK. It is one of Canada's largest wildlife art shows (strictly wildlife art). "Serenity" placed First in Class, Best in Division, and 2nd Best in Show in its skill group. It is the first competition I have ever entered, so I was thrilled at the results!<\P>

I want to thank everyone for viewing this image - your comments and "peeks" absolutely thrill me, and I am so glad you stopped by. This is a big step for me as an artist, as I am now proud to call myself a "Wildlife Artist" as it will be my focus from now on. For more information, you can check out my site at BigCatArt, or send me an e-mail. This picture has been sold (private sale) but prints will be released at a later date - aiming for summer 2006.

Laura Baker 03 Mar 2006

WOW! Absolutely incredible that you did this in colored pencil! Fantastic work!!!(I thought it was pastels at first because it looks so well-blended and smooth!)

Artist Reply: I do a lot of "burnishing" or in layman's terms "coloring very hard". :) This means lots of layers, lots of REALLY hard pressure (breaking leads sometimes!). This is what blends the colors together on the paper. :) Thanks for your comment - I always like to surprise people with my colored pencil works.

james Simms 03 Jan 2006

I have visited this image many times, and enjoy looking at the detail of your pencil work. I have a set of colored pencils which I have yet to use. I find this portrait quite inspiring and demonstrates the possibilities of that medium. I would love to view it a higher resolution if possible. Did you score the board to create the white whiskers. They came out excellent.

Artist Reply: Thanks for your comment James - I love to inspire others to bust out the colored pencils! They can do amazing things! :) To view a higher res picture of this image, visit my site at www.BigCatArt.com - it is on the home page, and if you click on the picture, you can see it in much higher res. As far as the whiskers go - I'll let you in on a little secret... I use a white gel pen, very lightly, over top of the whiskers I pencil in... it gives them the bit of clarity that they need! :) Best of luck to you with your work!
