Eastern tiger swallowtail females sometimes appear in this dark form. On the lower image, the tiger stripes show slightly from the underside (ventral view). There were two tigers feeding at the pickerelweed in full bloom at Elm Fork Nature Preserve, Carrollton, Dallas County, Texas. 8-31-14
