photo of a blue morpho peleides as he rested from the strain of trying to fly with wings so badly damaged just by people picking him up injurying the wings. I was talking to one of the staff from the conservatory and we were talking about how just by touching a butterfly and brushing their wings people can badly damage and even kill butterflies. He said that other than Time, in the conservatory the humans were the Only threat/predator in to the butterflies in this ecosystem. (There were a few kids and adults that kept picking up butterflies even though it is against the rules of engagement- and ended by being made to leave (issue was that the actual staff had to see it before they could enforce the ejecting from the hospital part. Anyways, we were talking a bit higher than normal voices so that people could hear the discussion so that they would NOT be able to say they did not know why it was forbidden, and also WHY. It is Killing! Scariest part is that often the adults still act dismissively about it.... But often the kids (especially 4-10ish) when they hear it hurts/kills the butterflies they stop doing it and tend to tell staff about other people doing it.
