THEME: Art of Love

DESCRIPTION: The topic for this contest is ART OF LOVE. It's the month of February and love is in the air. Spring weddings are coming up, then hot summer nights. We want you to submit artwork you have created that conveys the message of love. Love has different meanings to different people, so we expect a lot of entries for this contest. All entries need to meet our normal image guidelines, so don't submit anything too steamy, just good old fashion love.

Forever Morning ~ The Dream Awake (Detail) C@2010 - 24"x 18" original oil painting on fine portrait linen canvas. Portrays an early morning coastal landscape with a cove and private beach in the tropics. There is a Corinthian pillar on a colored marble abutment with matching stair steps leading to the private beach below.

The star of this show is a gentleman snowy egret bringing a rose blossom to his girlfriend on the top of the pillar.

“She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls.” Proverbs 31 verse 15

Beside God’s love, no other love can be equated to the Mother’s Love; no other human’s love is a sacrificial love like that of a mother. For the love for her offspring, a mother goes through nine months of pregnancy probably with days of morning sickness that ends with excruciating pain of childbirth. A mother gives nourishment and stability, to the development and transformation of a baby from conception to the day of birth and beyond. This painting is a reverence to all mothers. In my unique style, I painted the mother as a rainbow rose with the stems of thorns. The rainbow Rose represents mothers of all race. The Flower for the joy of motherhood and thorns for the labour pain at birth. The poem below is written from the viewpoint of a suckling baby in the painting now adult as words of adulation and appreciation of the mother.

My Mother the colourful Rose In our household Emitting the aroma of love and care. The sweat of her brow, the nutrient of our youth. Her nectar nourished. and nurtured our growth.

My Mother the busy Bee Of our household. Travelled far and near. Collecting nectar for the care of the family Proverb 31 woman She surpassed.

My Mother the aged Rose Of the family Baby, now she became. In need of love and care. We, her petals, may we be. her garments of warmth and care In this her sunset years

My Mother the ageing Rose Looking homewards bound. Awaiting the call to glory. When her sun finally sets the call to glory she capitulated. We, her petals, Almighty God I plead Us enabled to bid her adieu. With pomp and pageantry A befitting honour that due to her.
