The contest is at a beautiful time, where a Music season called "Margazhi Festival" happens in Chennai, India every year December. Hundreds of Carnatic classical music artists, classical dancers and other classical art forms perform on stage, its a feast to music lovers.

December is even more well know at Chennai for "Thiruppavai Vratham" (a vow or ritual) from 15th December to 15th January. Andal, the saint poet who composed Thiruppavai, sang a verse for each day, 30days, yearning for everlasting happiness and service of the Lord. The ritual is followed, singing early hours of the morning, to bring peace, prosperity and Divine Grace.

The instrument in the painting is "Veena", a string instrument, a classic Carnatic instrument. Its considered a divine one, each physical portion of the veena is said to be the seat in which subtle aspects of various gods and goddesses reside in Hinduism.
