Monk Parakeets, small green parrots, were imported to the U.S. in the 60's and 70's and many were released to eventually form feral flocks. There is a small flock at White Rock Lake in Dallas near the old waterworks and boathouse. Although they are very vocal, it was hard to see them against the green tree leaves.

I was not aware that we had parakeets and parrots in the wild within our own borders!

Artist Reply: neither was I :)

GREAT SHOTS, BRENDA. IN PANAMA, WE HAD THOUSANDS OF PARAKEETS THAT LOOKED LIKE LITTLE PARROTS WITH RED ON THEM TOO, AND THEY SCREECHED CHATTERED ALL THE TIME. IT GOT QUITE NOISY WHEN A MANGO TREE WAS FILLED WITH THEM.

Artist Reply: thanks, Sharon; there were only about 10 or so and they were amazingly loud!!
