This is the largest saltdough sculpture I have made so far. He measures 15"X 10" and remains in my personal collection.
It took a whole roll of aluminium foil for the inside frame work and about 4 pounds of salt dough for the outer body. The baking time on this puppy was about 10 hours at 200-250 degrees. Once he was completely dry, I painted the entire dog with black acrylic paint and dry-brushed him with a light brown color for contrast. The rhinestones in his collar were added while the sculpture was still soft.
Only his eyes, tongue and nose were covered with a high gloss, water-based acrylic varnish to make them appear wet. It took me about 2 1/2 hours for creating the foil part, another 2-3 hours for sculpting the body around it and another 2 hours or so to paint him. He is not perfect, one leg is a little thicker than the other and one eye is a little crooked but I liked him so much, I decided to make him a keeper.
(The doilie and the curtains in the background are also made by me, another one of my passions)
Thanks for looking
