This pecked image of a human (anthropomorph) is found on the Big Island of Hawaii in Volcanoes National Park. This area of petroglyphs (pecked images) called Pu'u Loa, was created during the past 1000 years by Polynesians. The images range from symbols to human and animal figures. It is the largest petroglyph area found in the Hawaiin island chain. Image copyright Cher Peterson. All rights reserved.

Fantastic, great photography and introduction for me to anthropology and marked stones in Hawaii. Early mark making facinates me. One of my favorites is Loughcrew, County Cavan & Newgrange, County Meath Ireland. Thank you for sharing this work.Dene Patton 16 Mar 2007
