Lonesome Pine

A fascinating subject the Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris). Looking nothing special in its early years, it follows the conical shape of most pines. Its real beauty is found in maturity when it gains the majesty of windswept age. They often stand alone for best effect and here I have used earthy ochres combined with gold highlights as a mountain backdrop, then accented the tree itself by painting the canopy in gold and the trunk and war torn branches in gold with a hint of pewter. If you were thinking of buying a Christmas tree, this one is guaranteed not to drop needles! Mixed media on a deep box canvas with gallery wrapped ochre sides so this picture is ready to hang on arrival. Approximate sizes are: 51cm x 62 cm x 4.5cm 20 x 24.5 x 1.75 ins
