Diversity is our life blood. The many species of animals and plants that exist provide stability and beauty to our entire world. Diversity also exists in many ways around us as we all go about our daily business of living in our personal, small world. We simply need to recognize differences and how these differences can complement each other. This colored pencil painting is based on this concept. I was out in our front lawn and noticed cone flower stems and their prickly heads left from summer still standing against the winter cold and wind. I broke several off and brought them into the house. I then noticed our Christmas cactus in the window with the colorful, delicate flowers it held. I also noticed that many of the flowers had fallen off and were on the sill at the base of the pot. I gathered up these recently dropped flowers and placed them with the cone flower stems. My photograph of this still life scene is the basis for the colored pencil painting I entitled "Diversity". Look for diversity around you and find beauty and value in it. The size of the artwork is 14.5 X 11.5 inches and was done on museum quality Grafix drafting film using Farber-Castell Polychromos pencils.
