On our last visit to Galena, Illinois, I became intrigued with the wide variety of ornate, antique door handles that you see as you walk from shop to shop. You interact with them to enter the shop. Do you take time to notice the handle? I began taking photographs of these handles and using them as the basis for a series of colored pencil paintings. This piece is the second in this series and is entitled "Antique Portals". The uniqueness of these side-by-side doors is that the handles have been removed, but the ornate plates are still an excellent example of the art that was a part of this era of doors. As a result of this modification, entry through these doors is by pushing on the "push plates". This painting was done on museum quality Grafix drafting film using Farber-Castell Polychromos and KOH-I-NOOR pencils. The size of this artwork is 11 X 14 inches.
