Sacagawea

Sacagawea (May 1788 – December 20, 1812), also Sakakawea or Sacajawea, was a Lemhi Shoshone woman who helped the Lewis and Clark Expedition achieve each of its chartered mission objectives exploring the Louisiana Purchase. With the expedition between 1804 and 1806, she traveled thousands of miles from North Dakota to the Pacific Ocean, established cultural contacts with native american populations, and researched natural history. NO NEED FOR WOMEN'S LIB !!!! SHE WAS WAY BEFORE HER TIME.. TERRIFIC WORK GREG.. DID YOU HAVE AN IMAGE OF HER OR IS THIS YOUR THOUGHTS ON HOW SHE LOOKED?? JOANIE

Artist Reply: Joanie, this was a drawing based on Alex Rice who played the part of Sacagawea. She happens to have Indian heritage having descended both from English and Indians. Her great grandfather was captured by indians and assimilated into the tribe.
