This artwork is about craving ,desire , appetite, and addiction. I am a compulsive overeater and struggle with the false but soothing gods ,of excess food and alcohol. The haiku on Facebook which I posted with this artwork ,I confess has nothing to do with it. The haiku was written on a freezing night as I crossed over the little bridge near home,. the creek was black and frozen , the constellation ,Orion the Hunter loomed brightly above , and since the crucifixion symbolizes the intersection of heaven and earth, [the horizontal and vertical cross at the center where with Christ we ensouled creatures all are suspended] the words seemed fitting. Sometimes I substitute the word stars for scars. The haiku should read,,,,,,Low Orion crucified, frozen black pool waits, to quench his hot scars.
