This lovely wildflower was growing by the trail at Hagerman refuge in April 2010. After contacting the Native Plant Information Network (NPIN) at the University of Texas in Austin, I learned it has an interesting name: Violet Blue-eyed Mary, a member of the figwort family. There was no image in the extensive gallery for it so these two images now are posted in the NPIN image gallery.

The stalk and leaves are almost as unique as the blooms. Sort of like the Wombat flower.
