The Barfly

Acrylics on acrylics paper. 18 x 14 inches. A bit of a departure for me - both in style and in content. Based on a little sketch I did a couple of years ago. I think every hostelry in the world has one of these fellas - no matter what day or time, he's always in there, propping up the bar. The barman is very loosely based on the landlord of my own local pub. Be interested to know what you folks think about this one as I'm not really sure what to make of it myself!

I love this, such wonderful work with acrylics. I think the expression on the guys face who is about to drink the Guinness is a masterpiece

Artist Reply: Thanks a million, John..........I'm glad you like this one. Its not my usual subject or style but after seeing a character like this in every pub, i felt that i had to "celebrate" the tradional Irish barfly :o))

great painting with character, looks like a good old fashioned pub, can see myself sat there drinking a single malt.

Artist Reply: Thanks a mill for the kind comments Aaron....and you obviously have good taste..........I cannot abide Guinness and much prefer a good whisky :o))

As a bit of a barfly myself Jacki I like it a lot and its good to meet someone who actually lives in Ireland as I did until 2000 when I met my present wife.

Artist Reply: Thanks a mill Frank...........you may have left Ireland but I think its true that, no matter how far you travel or how long you're gone, Ireland never really leaves you :o))

I love it, if I ever get to visit the land of my ancestors I will look for this place. I also like the style of the work, and yes the guy we have them here too, maybe not at the more modern clubs but at my favorite clubs such as the silver spur and such they live! thanks for the veiw!

Artist Reply: Thanks a million for you lovely comments, Greg. I don't do many figurative paintings but it does seem that every traditional bar/pub in the world has at least one "barfly". I hope you get to Ireland one day, and if you do, I can highly recommend McNamaras bar in Louisburgh :o))

I think what I like about this is their lack of expression. It makes it kind of funny and very typical as you said.

Artist Reply: Thanks for your comments John, glad it made you smile :o)) I think the barmans kinda given up as he knows he'll get no conversation...................
