©Delores J. Knowles 2009 -- The most powerful and the most common of the North American Owls, the Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) is easily identified by its large ear tufts that resemble horns. It’s found from the Arctic to the tropical rainforests and from deserts to city parks. The Great Horned Owl is the ony animal that regularly eats skunks. It is also a major predator on other, smaller owls, as well as many other birds. This bird was not in the wild, but I photographed him at the Homosassa State Wildlife Park in Homosassa, Florida.
