©Delores J. Knowles 2008 -- The Sandhill Cranes (Grus Canadensis), standing about four feet in height, are one of the more numerous large wading birds in Florida. They can also be found in several western and southern states and as far north as the remote Arctic. A mated pair of Sandhills makes their home in and around the pond in back of our house. This is the chick that was hatched this past spring. The photo is taken at age eight months. Photographed in Lake County, Florida.
