Afternoon Deliberations of Bird and Thaddeus McPhe

“My current biographical work introduces characters found in my previous work to a more neutral and/or playful palette while still evoking a sense of primitive melancholy. The work is directly influenced by mostly imaginary childhood characters my younger self created while growing up in Arkansas. The near disability of feeling alone and completely unique in a rural environment helped me conceive what I consider an army of accomplices in a fight to overcome boredom and complacency. I have surrounded the fold with a background of linear naivety and pale hues directly cast upon me by the blue Florida skies. In each piece I have taken antique cabinet photos and infused them with character that until now has remained locked away in my childhood thoughts.” -- J.C. Graham
