The subject of this painting refers to a Finnish-American folk cure for seasonal affective disorder (SAD) that involves bathing with grasses and herbs. The leaves are Labrador Tea (Rhododendron groenlandicum), collected from a Black Spruce bog on the shores of the Stony River, near Isabella, Minnesota.
