The Hostage

Upon the shores of a wine filled sea splashes the malady of many a person whose life was hostage to the enslavement of an obsession gone mad. Scattered amongst these rocks are the hopes and dreams of the unfulfilled. Stunted growth through their own misdeeds by a flood of drinking that no redemptive Ark could sail upon. They remain tied and bound to an endless thirst that no drink can quench. One drink is too many, a thousand is not enough. visionary imagist "Joey"

L.A. Spilsbury 26 Nov 2007

many people can draw really well but few have the gift to express what they feel inside and let it show up on their canvas so that others can understand and enjoy a part of this. That takes guts! Fantastic work. You are a true artist in my mind!

Artist Reply: L.A.: being an artist is a way of life I believe. It is important to remain true to your craft. That is why i enjoy the entire process. i believe that you feel the same. thanks again for stopping by and sharing with me.

Strong image. Beautiful painting. Aren't we lucky to be no longer bound to the bottle and free to express ourselves in our art. Isn't it great to have all this extra time and energy that used to be drained by drinking.

Artist Reply: John: Truer words were never spoken. I definitely agree. And time is the most precious of commodities. And better spent one day at a time. Thanks for finding me so that I have found you.

Jessica Courtley-Rose 07 Oct 2007

I think Eyal just said it all. I am so moved by your art because it is just so POWERFUL. The song "Fallen" by Sarah McLachlan reminds me of my mother's battle with the bottle and your art puts into perspective how she must feel! This is most wonderful...sorry to babble on!

Artist Reply: Jessica: You are not babbling. Quite the contrary your words speak directly to my heart. I will keep you and yours and especially your mother in my prayers and daily reflections.

How true it is for many addictions. Wonderful words to get out there. Great work Joey!!

Artist Reply: Merle: Thanks for noticing my words as well as my art. In my painting the "Modern Apocalypse" the second panel deals with the subject of addictions. Thanks again!

Christine brand 03 Oct 2007

very impressive, love the original presentation of this most true concept. wow!

Artist Reply: Christine: When I was young I was not too unfamiliar with such debacles. I have over the years seen those whose lives have been destroyed and those who have survived. Thanks for the insightful remarks.

Joey, endless thirst is the right expression, no alchoholic fluid like wine or beer can ever still the thirst of an addictive person. The craving will not stop even if one drinks no more. A sea of whine and a person who has tied the ropes on his wrists by himself....what an alarming painting. It reminds me of Odysseus and the call of the sirens....

Artist Reply: Gabrielle: Your analogy of Odysseus and the Sirens is very appropriate. What a wonderful insight you have drawn. Great comment and thank you for being you.

annette steens 03 Oct 2007

a wonderful painting of a great problem for many I think! It's not the drink but the unknown Knowledge about who we are. They have forgotten that they have power Inside over themselves. Let's help and reach out the hand to those souls!

Artist Reply: Annette: I have in the past done paintings for the "recovering" community. They have been displayed at treatment centers and at hospitals. I am glad that you recognized the importance of the theme this particular painting has. Thank you!!

Anneke Hut 03 Oct 2007

A very good painting, rendering the subject greatly. The sky is beautiful, luckily behind the dark clouds there will always be that glorious light to focus on for everyone who wants to escape.

Artist Reply: Anneke: Where there is life there is hope. Your insights into this painting are remarkable and correct. Thanks for sharing your profound words with me.

Looks like some one has a drinking problem (in the painting that is). The only thing that bothers me a little is that the liquid in the bottle doesn't seem to be sitting level. It (the liquid) also seems a little 2 dimensional. Other than that, it is very well executed.

Artist Reply: Laura: Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my work. This painting hung in my gallery for some time. I appreciate your words. Stop back again anytime or drop into my gallery. Again thanks!

Joanna Jungjohann 02 Oct 2007
