How wonderful these shots are and the explanation of how the tribal members integrate the old with the new is fascinating. As usual, Wes looks great and his friend is very impressive as well. Just terrific.
Artist Reply: wes is feeling great now. thanks so much Linda
To add to Stanley's comment, the colors are very patriotic too. The contemporary blending is very interesting.
Artist Reply: Christine your right it is very interesting. Cultures always change and are never stagnet, no regalia ever worn was always worn. Tribal dress has always evolved. For example when introduced to the gun the Natives adapted and used it. They traded for cloth and beads ect with traders and wore that. It is long standing that change took place even between tribes before the eurpeons arived.
It's interesting that todays culture can combine with past traditions. I do not know your location, but the few native americans near here refuse to abandon buckskin for tribal gatherings. They do not recognize that their predecessors combined whatever was available into their dress. I noted that your second picture show camoflauge and a millitary logo.
Artist Reply: Every Tribal nation is seperate they are not one. So this tribal member combined his veterans ware into the regalia as he is a member of the honor gaurd as he fought in vietnam. It is common here. thanks for the insight Stan.
