HEIDELBERG GERMANY

Heidelberg is one of the oldest cities in Germany, with roots going back to the days of the Roman Empire. In the year 260 AD, Heidelberg, which was then a Roman outpost, was overrun by the Germanic Confederation.

Over the centuries, the city has suffered many set-backs and bears the scars of wars and insurrections but fortunately, it escaped bombing in the second world war and the wonderful architecture of centuries past remains intact.

The beautiful Neckar River location plus it's architectural marvels such as the castle, bridge, churches and university have attracted millions of tourists to the city.

This is one of a series of pictures I took when stationed in Germany as a member of the US Army.

You have taken this photo from the castle... right? What a climb up to this vantage point! I appreciate the text history- I didn't know all this. Very well done!
