Elvis Costello: Almost Blue

Since his music first hit the US in 1977 I've been a fan and his music just gets better with time. This is my oil on panel painting of him, which is glued to an acyrlic on canvas portrait of him... reflects how his career has spanned many decades and different styles and I love them all.

i've always had a weak spot for any Elvis Costello does. Such an expressive voice. This portrait goes so well with his style. Very well done!

Artist Reply: Like Billie HOliday... an imperfect voice which is exactly why it's so compelling. "An expressive voice" indeed! I can't put it any better than that. If my portrait of him does him justice, I'm glad.

Very expressive! And you named your gallery after one of my favorite Elvis C. songs!

Artist Reply: Yep... one of my favorite songs too. And a prime reason for "Blue Chair Studio". I also like Watching the Detectives and Kid About It.

Great portrait of Elvis! I had the good fortune to see him in his first American performance at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, TX: His aim was true. :)

Artist Reply: I've seen him perform a few times too... his musical evolution has so closely followed my own changing tastes in music... I almost think he's doing it all just for me. He's brilliant and I love that rough voice of his. No wonder that a lot of my favorite art is also 'rough' and 'raw' in appearance.

I bought his 1st album & still have it. Talented & original just like your work. 1st class

Artist Reply: JUST his first album? SO many good ones since then that it's hard to pick my favorite. And when you say "1st class" I say 'thank you' and will additionally point out that this was my FIRST oil painting done for a class. Oil is a fun medium.

Right on! I love the fleshy portrait that grabs your eye first amongst the series of pop like blue/black portraits. It's like the real man shines out in the midst of being an icon.

Artist Reply: I love this observation - I meant for the background to be just that... a background but it is true... the (current) Elvis, the real person, is much more vivid than his public persona. Not that I would know. The price is high because I don't really want to sell this but I will if someone ponies up.
