BLACK PANTHER CAGED

BLACK PANTHER CAGED digitized by Michael Forbus Rainer Maria Rilke author Translation by Peter J. Seng His Vision from the Passing by of bars Has grown so tired that it holds nothing more. It seems to him there are a thousand bars, And out beyond those thousand bars no world. His supple lope and flexibly strong strides, That always in the smallest circle turn, Are like a dance of strength around a middle In which, benumbed, a great will stands. Just sometimes, does the veil upon his eye Silently rise; then goes an image in, Goes through the nervous poise of his still limbs, And ceases, in his heart, to be.

Beautiful animal and Rilke's work desrves to be made more public. Read Liebeslied and you'll know what I mean.

Artist Reply: Gordon, You are so right about Rilke, he is a genius and his writing is so brilliant and in depth about feelings and great issues. This passage really defines the panther caged. A tragedy to cage such a beast. My gratitude for the information about that book and will get it to read. Glad to meet another Rilke lover. My gratitude. Michael

this is awesomely beautiful work; "supple lope" describes very well our big black kitty, Inky...our house panther :)

Artist Reply: Brenda, thank you so much, I have been a busy boy and have neglected my friends at AW. I thank you very much for your kindness and my gratitude to you. Hope this finds you well and happy. Michael

Excellent work, Miguel. I'm curious as to what the the purple swirl is on the top left. Did the Devas change color on me since I last saw them?

a great image and a wonderful story. I have always been impressed by RilkeĀ“s poem and see it as a metapher for all those innocent victims behind bars
