Artist Reply: Thank you Anneke for your kind words. I guess you have to know what a ballerina looks like; the way they hold their head and their look, to know it's a ballerina.
oh, very very very well painted, but what makes it to a ballerina and not a portrait, pur sang? It's a bit floating, this head, why?
Artist Reply: The background to this painting was a pre-toned background. I started with teh head and got to a point where it is now and I just had to stop. I felt that adding anymore would not benefit the overall look. I told myself before painting her that I was only going to paint the bare minimum with regard to skin tone. I felt the background color could fill in and show through in areas. Yes...it is a portrait....of a ballerina. The oval canvas helps to give a classical feel. Thanks for commenting.
