I used to work the fairs and festivals doing portraiture in charcoal or pastel as well as airbrushing T-Shirts. You have a good eye for form or you would not attempt portraiture. I am sure this is more detailed when viewing it in person. When you photograph artwork, it should be done without direct flash as it burns out detail that would otherwise be seen. You also may need to vary your line strength and shadow more. This can be acheived by changing pencils, B to 6B, or using a General 555 Layout Pencil and adjusting pressure on the paper or illustration board.
