The Magic of a Feather

Art by Sher Richardson (C) 2005
Words by Jeff... (C) 2006

The Magic of a Feather
With the wings of angels, I am carried into the light.
From darkest depths, they have searched for me.
Where I was lost in the abyssal of the foam green Sea.
Face up looking from under the cold waves of darkness.
Just sleep tonight she whispered.

She came from a storm of passion on a November night.
Caressing my head and stroking my hair.
Telling me everything will be all right.
Just sleep tonight she whispered.

It is ok, just breathe, and do not torment yourself tonight.
Is ok to smile from time to time.
Her hair caressed my face.
As the fragrance of Dolce Vita remained.
Just sleep tonight she whispered.

The rain continued with the storm.
From the blackness of my dream she was born.
She too is a dove in the storm.
One lost feather remains.
Just sleep tonight she whispered.

Searching the hallways, and closets of my mind.
For the reminder that she visited me.
The magic of a feather lost, a new feather earned.
The feather of an angel, that visited me in a dream.
Just sleep tonight she whispered

To tell you I was here would not be accepted.
So tonight, so you know you were protected.
Allowed you to sleep was my goal.
I leave you the magic of this unseen feather in the closet of your mind.
Just sleep tonight she whispered.

From the blue light of the moon.
Shadows on the ground, were seen.
Of an angel giving flight to wing.
Do you find magic, in the feather, of your dreams?
How did you sleep last night? she whispered.

Jeff, How poignant! I do believe that Sher is your angel, and your advocate. She would want nothing more fervently than to relieve your tormented nights of lonliness. In her paintings, she captured the beauty of even the most insignificant items. With your words, you have captured the essence of how a shared love for each other can bring us comfort, and a sense of connection, a sense of peace. You honor Sher's memory with your gentle words, and in so doing, you honor yourself and your children. Well done, dear brother!

Jeff, your words take me there... to the place and time where we wait expectantly for a miracle... a brief moment... a sign .... from one who is gone. And at this time of year we are reminded that God gives miracles!

Leigh Karchner 06 Dec 2006

That's so beautiful Jeff and Blue. Thank you for sharing this with us Jeff. I know this past year has not been kind to your or your family and especially this time of year, I find you more in my heart and prayers. Sher is indeed with us all still, guiding, steering, giving peace. This piece is so typical of Sher, to find the largest of beauty in the smallest of things.
