Wow I wish someone could teach me to draw like this. The detail and realism are truely excellent, indeed I thought this was a photograph. Pic of the Day.
Artist Reply: Thanks Andrew, thats vey high praise. To explain how I draw i'd say don't think of it as drawing but shading.
If you try to portray something too quickly by drawing definite lines your lining yourself up for a fall. I shade on a separate bit of paper with a dark graphite stick like a 6B, then work a paintbrush into it and mark out the composition, It's painting with pencil. Its very soft and can still be rubbed out easily. When I'm happy I'll shade in the features, draw the definite details and use a putty rubber moulded into a point, thin edge or ball for the highlights. A smaller paintbrush is handy for details too. A clean page is useful to put on top of the work so you can lean on it and do other features. I may have said far too much but I hope it's helpful, like anything you practise you'll develop techniques to become better

I thought that this was simply pencil at first and was ready to bow before you as a realism/drawing god! But even with a little "help" from a different medium the end result was ... this is cooler than life, cooler than any photo. (I just don't think you could get this quality with a camera.) Congratulations .... great work!
Artist Reply: Very sweet comments, I'm chuffed. I wish we could show our pictures at full size though, that would be my only criticism of this site
