Osprey Architecture

As I drove by this nest everyday on my way to a busy day of work for months, I had always been very puzzled by this Osprey nest. A huge structure to house both parents (huge birds of prey) and their offspring is an incredible site to see unto itself. This particular nest was at least 15-20 feet wide by 5 feet high, and was so heavy it bent the old dead tree it was constructed in. Amazingly, the tree and nest fell to one side and came to rest upon a second dead tree nearby. Even with violent storms and extreme winds from Florida tropical forces, this nest stayed in the tree for months and months. Was this pure luck of nature, or were the Ospreys brilliant architects, knowing in advance the nest would bend the old tree and fall upon the other tree providing shelter for their young? In this series of painted layers, masking, channel separations, filters and extensive use of digital paint brushes, Thom's original digital photo was transformed this mystical painting, with questions never to be answered.
