The womb or chalice

This abstract acrylic is titled the womb or chalice. It is based on an old symbol for the feminine which represents the shape of a womb in an inverse V design or is also the same shape as a cup or chalice. The holy grail or chalice was thought to be perhaps the womb and offspring of Mary Magdalene and Jesus in the mystery novel the Da Vinci Code. The womb here symbolizes women's ability to give birth to life and also the power inherent in that act of creation. I used several layers of paint and in some of the work you can find a marbled effect with the various layers of paint. I used tape to create lines and paint in diagonal rows to create the v-shaped effect. Some sections are equidistant, but the pink v-shape in the middle is off center and to the right, while the upper section is slightly off center and to the left. The bottom section starting with the gold v-shaped pattern is balanced and equidistant as are the lines beneath it. I created the equidistant lines and sections by measuring and making lines with a pencil and ruler and covering the outer area of the section with tape and then painting and removing the tape for the remaining sections.
