Alexandrite

“Alexandrite” is the birthstone for June, and is part of my Broken Doll Birthstone series. This innocent, yet a bit creepy child broken doll, cuddles her ball jointed doll kitten. Her striking eyes and sweet curls make her one adorable broken doll. Turquoise and purple hues are shown in all of the Alexandrite stones and the kitten's eyes. * Special thanks to my daughter for being this inspiration and model of this piece. This is also her birthstone month*

You are talented, but I don't understand why you put in cracks to detract and make it scary. Why not just do a beautiful portrait of your daughter or people you love?

Artist Reply: Hi Linda. Thank you for comment. My art is not for everyone and that’s ok. I like to refer to it as beautifully dark. I started a series of birthstone broken dolls so this drawing is also part of a that series. I could have drawn a normal portrait of my daughter, but anyone can do that. I wanted my drawing of her to be uniquely my own, just like she is. ;)
