Mature Cooper's hawks have reddish-colored eyes and more of a smokey cap look to the head. This one was soaking up the sun on a cool afternoon near Wolf Springs Road in far southern Dallas County, Texas.

I would not know the difference between the Red Tailed Hawk here and your Cooper's Hawk there. As a youth I found a Red Tail and freed it from a trap. Unfortunately it still died but not because I did not try to save it.
