The mennonite people were asked by the Canadian goverment to settle in southern Manitoba in the 1870`s . The land resembled the land in the Ukraine which was flat country with little access to wood and the winters could be very harsh with high winds and tempertures of -40f . The home connected to the barn was well suited to this weather . In the summer it could get really hot and a lot of these homes had a summer kitchen which wouldn`t heat up the home and was located in between the home and barn . LOCATED IN NEUBERGTHAL MANITOBA .
