--------SOME HISTORY
-------
You are likely to agree with
nineteenth century
writer Nathaniel Parker Willis that the
Hudson is indeed one of America's great rivers and
"a spot of the earth with soul."
The Hudson River is a river running
mainly through New York State but
partly forming the boundary between
the states of New York and New Jersey.
It is named for Henry Hudson, an
Englishman sailing for the
Netherlands, who explored it in
1609. Early European settlement of the
area clustered around the river.
The area inspired the Hudson River school of
painting, a sort of early American pastoral idyll.
