Orbs explained??

The other day I saw a thread on one of the AW boards on the subject of "orbs" in photographs. By the time I dug out this snapshot to post in a reply, I couldn't find the original thread again!

This is an original photograph, taken without flash and without any kind of retouching or digital work. The so-called "orbs" in the picture were not visible to the naked eye when I took the photo.

My explanation is that the elephants were snuffling and waving their trunks around (as elephants do), so the air must have been full of drops of water vapour that reflected the light and got caught on camera.

I took a couple more snaps of the elephants and both have "orbs", but they don't appear in any of the rest of my circus photos.

Come to think of it, it adds a rather interesting effect...

Orbs, Hmm?

Any time I have heard about "orbs" is was coming from the mouth of a paranormal investigator or someone interested in paranormal and metaphysical things. It seems they are always fast to point out and explain them away as spirit energies or entities. But upon asking these people, "how do you know, I mean really know?" they dont have a solid explanation. Or are they just assuming this is what is must be because they have no other explanation.

There is one thing I have leaned and that is that human beings are very fast to put labels on, and crystallize things they dont understand for the sake of an "explanation" that really doesnt have any knowing or real truth behind.

Dont get me wrong, I feel that I am a very spiritual person and I do believe in the afterlife, and the spirit world and things of that matter and have had many paranormal experiences. But when it comes to orbs, I just dont "feel" that they are any of significant relating to a spirit type manifestation. I think they are something, I just dont know what. Most likely water vapors as mentioned or dust particles.

Besides if they were spirits, why would they all be gathering around the elephants, and why havent I ever got a orb on a film?

As far as I was concerned the orbs were nothing more then a spot in the photo that in some instances blur the image being photographed.

I also have been skeptic of the Orbs being anything but dew in the air or some type of gas particle caught from the reflection of the flash or lens... I am sure that there are many reasons that a blurb can appear in a photo... That is until I took 4 photos one after the other, in my back yard on the eve of Thanksgiving. And after posting here on AW some one told me it could be a ghost...

The only enhancement I did was brighning the second photo where the orb is in the tree...

There was no visable light that night except for the glow over the lake...

Here are the photo graphs I took around 530 pm.

The orb in the first photo is the one that I was able to pull an image out off.

I do not know if there is any one who really knows what causes an orb ... and they can be photographed but to catch one to examine it I am sure is impossible...

I am sure not every blurb in a photo is an orb..

I have no reason to try to pull a hoax...it is not in my nature...

I think it is weird and I am curious as to what causes this and have talked to various people...

It is interesting hearing what people think& feel free to zoom in and see if you can get an image from the bright orb by the dog kennel.. Oh yeah the dogs were not barking...

If you look close you can see a faint image...

Jane Before I forget to mention... Very cool photo of the elephants....Its a great shot....the orbs do give it some effect... there are so many of them... I think the photo would be great with out all the orbs...

Sometimes a wet lense can be the culprit for causing these orb-like creatures to appear on an image... The original post was "What color is yours? Huh??"

The ones' I took on that post was strange because I took several in the same direction ... in a row within seconds of each other and 3 out of 4 had orbs... not normal for me...

I think the orb idea is fun... :o)

I dont want to bore anyone with the orb thing. I admit it was fun to find an image in the one I took.

I do think that they can be annoying when the shot you are trying for is ruined by multiple spots on the photo.

there is nothing contrary to nature, only to what we know about nature.

And "There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy" (William Shakespeare).

All the same, if Shakespeare had portrayed the ghost of Hamlet's father floating round the battlements in a bubble, it wouldn't have had the same effect!
