Life's all about choices.........
Let's try to keep it positive..... at least there are a few concessions to the current situation.
JMHO
I have heard a lot more negative remaks hurled at AW, for less reason. Many thanks
Generally speaking, it saddens me that some people are all too quick to get upset, or respond in a negative way simply because some people may not agree with how others here may feel or what we say. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is entitled to their feelings, questions and opinions, even if we don't always see eye to eye on things.
As far as the results of the survey, I personally am not happy with them. I filled out the survey because I was not happy about several things on this site, and the negative vibe in general that I did not feel when I first joined AW. I felt I made good suggestions regarding the things I don't like about this site, and granted I am just one person out of many, and obviously majority rules, but as the outcome of the results have now been stated, it seems nothing has really changed. I for one am disappointed.
edit to add: I agree with others here who have stated that so long as the Top Ten reamins, there really should be more categories. I did suggest this in the survey, and still stand by it. I feel it will give exposure to more artists on this site, as well as other types and varities of art.
This old cowboy will be moving on as soon as my membership runs out. I can think of better ways of loosing my sences, than caring about something that bites me for doing so. Most of those who reacted have made much larger assults on AW in the past and for less reason, and yes I am hurt by it.

I believe AW is saying it's not a permanent fixture it's a trial offering..........
The original General Discussion Board was a lively forum and it was funny, silly at times and people had the opportunity to relate to one another on a personal level. It was not a Soap Box for one-sided diatribes and personal vendettas. There was no blocking feature originally either. Most of the repeat posters were civil. People reacted if Spammers came on the boards because they would be bullying, domineering and crude. So AW allowed blocking to keep Spammers off the boards. It was never intended as a weapon to gang up on other members.
Perhaps you who so love the General Discussion Board will be able to bring back the fun and friendly place it used to be years ago.
as long as you don't go back to being suspicious, rude, ugly to others, wrecking discussions and prone to outlandish outbursts.....
all things that caused the board to be shut down in the first place.
I usually stray from posting here due to the negativity at times and childish antics of others, but I do feel, just as many of you do, that I must voice my feelings when I need or want to. Like I said yesterday, everyone has the right to do so, even if we all don't see eye to eye.
Unless someone is being *really* nasty, there really is no need for the negativity - after all, we all joined for the same common ground - ART!
For those of you happy with the results, I'm glad for you. But there is no need for replies rubbing the results in, pointing out the percentages, and I fail to see what is so funny that majority rules. I'm not happy with the results, but I'm also not losing any sleep over it. The results have been posted, with all due respect, there is no need to drive the point home even more to those who are not happy with the results.
I did my part, I filled the survey out, I said what I liked about the site, said what I didn't like, made several suggestions, etc...the outcome is what it is. I did what i could on my part, and I can not change the outcome. Moving on....
Take care everyone, and let's continue supporting one another, even if we all don't agree on everything.
Take care Bob!!!
and Peace to all! :)
DP Review did just that. They managed to have lively discussions that at times got a little down and dirty but took quick action to cut them off.
I realize that site had a totally different purpose but making agreements with some of the largest manufacturers and retail outlets made the camera industry listen and resulted in the purchase of the site by Amazon.
I thought that when that happened the reviews would become tainted by the money and they haven't.
My point is that the only people we get attention from for the most part is other photographers. I am happy to have made friends here but there's got to be a way to improve the e-commerce. As it is now, this is the first sale I've from the site directly in over three years and a year since I have made a sale from someone who contacted me as a result of the site.
There is a lot of talent here both in the participants and the site owners and administrators but the design is not inviting to buyers and it doesn't even look from first view that it is an e-commerce site.
I think this aspect of the site might have been something to ask about.
All those who'd like to see this become more of a store raise their hands.
Please count!!
