I'm really tired of all the negative responses here so I'm instituting my option not to read any more of this thread.

Life's all about choices.........

Leigh Karchner 22 Aug 2007

Same here Joan..... I've been watching too with cautious optimism.... just waiting for a "disagreement" to break out. It's obvious that not all of AW's comments make sense and for some of us, may seem ambiguous. AW will never please everyone here...... just a fact of life. We each have a responsibility to keep it clean, fair and show AW we CAN be adults here. Those who CAN'T will then hopefully stick out like sore thumbs to AW.

Let's try to keep it positive..... at least there are a few concessions to the current situation.

As far as the Top 10 thing goes, I really can't see the point of an increase. Many times I have received a Top 10 Award with only 7 comments - and sometimes as few as 3. In light of this, I'm sure there'd be days where you'd find [at least]half of a Top 20 List with 3 comments or less -and a Top 100 List would be completely redundant. Furthermore, if there were 100 members on the list, I have my doubts as to how many would actually receive views. I, myself, would probably stop after viewing the first 10 or 20. I'd definitely hate to see it go higher than that.

I totally agree with you, Bob, but I don't care anymore one way or the other. I'm happy not accepting comments and never will until I see sensible changes.

Renate Dartois 22 Aug 2007

I agree Leigh you'd think we are all adults here however the complaining goes on and on everybody has their little issues one the top ten the other something else and realisticly I do not think that will stop hopefully when we get the GBB back everyone thinks about that or we will loose it for good.

bianca 22 Aug 2007

yes i agree there always be those who always will be complaining...maybe ummmmmmmmm take time and coment on some great work that u all wanna see in top 10...so they make it there

My curiousity got the better of me and I stopped back here to see if any one person got the point of what I said. So far, no. You're all missing the point. :(

Bob MacPherson 22 Aug 2007

Just before I call it a day, I would like to make clear that my response was not negative. It simply asked the questio: I don't care if they increase, decrease or stand on their head and spit nickles, but why go through the months of pretenuous survey, when the ballot was already in? I chose the right to ask.

I have heard a lot more negative remaks hurled at AW, for less reason. Many thanks

jane diamond 23 Aug 2007

I understand what you're saying Bob, and yes, you do have the right to ask.

Generally speaking, it saddens me that some people are all too quick to get upset, or respond in a negative way simply because some people may not agree with how others here may feel or what we say. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is entitled to their feelings, questions and opinions, even if we don't always see eye to eye on things.

As far as the results of the survey, I personally am not happy with them. I filled out the survey because I was not happy about several things on this site, and the negative vibe in general that I did not feel when I first joined AW. I felt I made good suggestions regarding the things I don't like about this site, and granted I am just one person out of many, and obviously majority rules, but as the outcome of the results have now been stated, it seems nothing has really changed. I for one am disappointed.

edit to add: I agree with others here who have stated that so long as the Top Ten reamins, there really should be more categories. I did suggest this in the survey, and still stand by it. I feel it will give exposure to more artists on this site, as well as other types and varities of art.

Bob MacPherson 23 Aug 2007

Thank you Jane. I have endeavored to be pro AW since joining a long time ago, and have spent may hours trying to promote positive change. The manner in which this survey was conducted, and the application of the results are indicative of what can be expected. To shrug ones shoulders and say "lets just move on" is exactly the way the want us to respond.

This old cowboy will be moving on as soon as my membership runs out. I can think of better ways of loosing my sences, than caring about something that bites me for doing so. Most of those who reacted have made much larger assults on AW in the past and for less reason, and yes I am hurt by it.

All The best Jane

bianca 23 Aug 2007

and i would say that 11% of those unhappy didnt make for changes....The survay says: 89% were happy with it....lol :)

I think you're right Joan

nobody was listening

I believe AW is saying it's not a permanent fixture it's a trial offering..........

The original General Discussion Board was a lively forum and it was funny, silly at times and people had the opportunity to relate to one another on a personal level. It was not a Soap Box for one-sided diatribes and personal vendettas. There was no blocking feature originally either. Most of the repeat posters were civil. People reacted if Spammers came on the boards because they would be bullying, domineering and crude. So AW allowed blocking to keep Spammers off the boards. It was never intended as a weapon to gang up on other members.

Perhaps you who so love the General Discussion Board will be able to bring back the fun and friendly place it used to be years ago.

as long as you don't go back to being suspicious, rude, ugly to others, wrecking discussions and prone to outlandish outbursts.....

all things that caused the board to be shut down in the first place.

Renate Dartois 23 Aug 2007

Well Marty I think I said something like that in my above post. My point was either we get along and can have a discussions without getting rude and confronting or we loose the GDB forever. There have been a lot of problems with that kind of behavior the last year or so.

Monroe Jacks 23 Aug 2007

My sentiments, exactly...

jane diamond 23 Aug 2007

Bob - I feel bad that you hurt, but I do understand why you feel that way. And I also understand where you are you are coming from. Just wanted to let you know. You seem like a sweet guy, and I wanted to wish you all the best as well! :) Thank you for the well wishes you gave me in your recent post.

I usually stray from posting here due to the negativity at times and childish antics of others, but I do feel, just as many of you do, that I must voice my feelings when I need or want to. Like I said yesterday, everyone has the right to do so, even if we all don't see eye to eye.

Unless someone is being *really* nasty, there really is no need for the negativity - after all, we all joined for the same common ground - ART!

For those of you happy with the results, I'm glad for you. But there is no need for replies rubbing the results in, pointing out the percentages, and I fail to see what is so funny that majority rules. I'm not happy with the results, but I'm also not losing any sleep over it. The results have been posted, with all due respect, there is no need to drive the point home even more to those who are not happy with the results.

I did my part, I filled the survey out, I said what I liked about the site, said what I didn't like, made several suggestions, etc...the outcome is what it is. I did what i could on my part, and I can not change the outcome. Moving on....

Take care everyone, and let's continue supporting one another, even if we all don't agree on everything.

Take care Bob!!!

and Peace to all! :)

I hope one of the changes you have in mind apart from the sales aspect, is to have the same facilies such as sub-galleries etc., on the private views as the main ones as well as all the abilities to change things etc. I find it hard to understand why it wouldn't have been simpler to create a duplicate minus the sales and monitoring aspect. Please consider this change as I for one could make a lot more use of your site, if the private bit was more like the public one. Regards and thanks

In spite of the fact, I just made a sale, this site does not bring in what it could and that is outside viewers and buyers. One of the things that would do it is to have other sites with links on this site and even advertising from companies that relate to what we are doing.

DP Review did just that. They managed to have lively discussions that at times got a little down and dirty but took quick action to cut them off.

I realize that site had a totally different purpose but making agreements with some of the largest manufacturers and retail outlets made the camera industry listen and resulted in the purchase of the site by Amazon.

I thought that when that happened the reviews would become tainted by the money and they haven't.

My point is that the only people we get attention from for the most part is other photographers. I am happy to have made friends here but there's got to be a way to improve the e-commerce. As it is now, this is the first sale I've from the site directly in over three years and a year since I have made a sale from someone who contacted me as a result of the site.

There is a lot of talent here both in the participants and the site owners and administrators but the design is not inviting to buyers and it doesn't even look from first view that it is an e-commerce site.

I think this aspect of the site might have been something to ask about.

All those who'd like to see this become more of a store raise their hands.

Please count!!
