Self Portrait

Mary Ellen Parker was born October 28, 1947 and left this world as we know it, August 29, 2004.

She was found at the dining table with a soda and peice of cake in front of her. She passed peacefully and painfree. They say her heart gradually stopped and she simply fell asleep. It was a shock to all of us, and I bet, to her. I can imagine her exclaim as she rose above her body saying, "you could have waited till I finished my cake!" haha That is the momma I knew.

Her momma passed away just two months before she did. And then her brother's grandson who was only in his 20s was found dead in bed two weeks after her death. We have been through the ringer with death. It has certainly made us appreciate what we have now.

I miss my momma who was affectionately nicknamed Umpy. She was my best friend, my mentor, my muse, my biggest fan and worst critic. Losing her is the most difficult thing I've ever had to deal with.

She helped thousands with her Umpyland website, and her adkins support webgroup. (UmpyLandUSA) All of her websites have won awards of merit.

Mary "Umpy" was so special that she even joined some teen sites that most adults would find offensive just to help counsel teens and help them through difficult times.

Known as Mother Mary to many, she was known to counsel people away from suicide, drugs and dangerous decisions.

Momma was a great artist and photographer, writer and poet. Artwanted.com has agreed to keep this page open in her memory. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. They are also putting a memorial in their book for her at no charge. The world is a better place having such wonderful people in it.

I will post her art as I find it.

Below is the bio that mom wrote when she was still an active member: Sorry I am not part of the general or artwanted message boards any longer, but I just think It wore me out.

I will be viewing your art and photos and commenting, and may come back at times to artcritique.

If you want to write to me, please do so at [email protected].

I am reopening UMPYLAND USA msn group for friends that I know that would like to join.

GO to :

http://groups.msn.com/UMPYLANDUSA/

Not a very active group, but maybe you can join and come in once a week or so and post a message. Or more often if you like.

I have a more active group now for low carbers, but you don't have to be on a diet or need to lose weight to join. It is a fun group with great assistant managers and members.

About 25 or 30 people have started journals, and they are fun to read.

GO CHECK IT OUT NOW!

Have a good day!
