HUDDLED against the cool whisper of the salt laden breeze of the dawning day the women wait for their men to return from the dark journey. They hope the overnight Adriatic voyage will bring home a bounty of fish for the small village. Wrapped in robes of sand, goldenrod and ruby, their arm-crossed silhouettes scan the horizon for any sign of the tiny fleet, but they see nothing. As the wind picks up, the rolling sea forces the women back toward the shore upon which waves crash in explosions of silver. Will this be the day of return? With every bit of their being the women hope so.
