In the Playground

My grandchildren in a local playground. I put the composition together from several photographs that I took myself. I wanted to get the feeling of the playground without drawing the equipment in detail. The semi-abstract background was new for me, as was the heavier colour. Coloured pencils on A2 cartridge paper. This meant the portraits were much smaller than I am used to doing and I had real trouble getting a likeness. I need to practice catching a likeness without drawing the features in detail.

I agree with all, Kay. The movement, especially of the older girl, is great and the expression you caught on the little one's face combined with the hands thrown out in glee, is priceless. (great foreshortening too). Thanks for your comment on "For Joyce".
