Lt Jack Bateman escorts a crippled B17 over the channel. The 5th Emergency Rescue Squadron was a welcome site to many a plane in distress. If the worst were to happen the P47 can drop a dingy flares and smoke and of course radio for help while circling above - until a PBY flying boat can pick up the crew.
