This painting is my first major full size work on birds in their environment. I started in early April working on small oil paintings, observing my subject closely and gradually strengthening  the relationship between my medium and portraying the subject. This painting was started within the last six weeks. I am now working on other large paintings of birds. The small paintings I have been doing having given me the eye to go directly to a large canvas and build up a full scale painting without hesitation. The goldfinches in this painting are one of my favorites within the finch family. The poppy field has been done for the joy of colour. Oil on canvas box frame. 40x16 inches.
