CLOWN ON THE CARPET

JUVINILE CLOWN FISH IN CARPET ANEMONE - FIJI ISLANDS - THE SALAD BOWL REEF----------------- A juvenile clown fish not one inch long takes refuge in his carpet anemone. The clown fish share a symbiotic relationship with the anemone. The bright colors attract other fish the anemone might feed on and the stingers of the anemone protect the clown from predation by other fish. Each clown fish or clown fish family will select one anemone and stay with that anemone their entire lives. The clown will initially swim among the anemone stingers allowing the anemone to gradually sting it till the fish becomes immune to that anemones sting. It can then comfortably live in the anemone. Even sleeping inside as the anemone closes up for the night. Somehow the anemone comes to recognize its guest and will never eat the clown fish that it hosts. A rather amazing relationship designed to work for both the host and guest.---geoff
