Secondhand Rose

Acrylic and marker on two canvases. Started as a lesson to my kindergarten class on Surrealism... we cut out heads of animals, and put them on human bodies. My first "character" was the cat bride, and thought she needed a story. Completed March 8, 2008. copyright jeff ostrowski.

Awesome painting, Jeff! So much to see, I'm very curious about the text. :))

Artist Reply: Thanks SO much for the comment! the text is a quote from Henry David Thoreau :“It is easier to sail many thousand miles through cold and storm and cannibals, in a government ship, with five hundred men and boys to assist one, than it is to explore the private sea, the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean of one's being alone. It is not worth the while to go round the world to count the cats in Zanzibar.” I thought it was really cool since i mentioned sailing AND exotic cats!
